Looking ahead, make sure to stop by the blog August 1-7th. I'll be participating in the August contest hop. :-) I have some fun things to giveaway. While I'm not going to give away any spoilers just yet, I'll give you a hint. The prizes have something to do with Stacey Kade's 'Queen of the Dead', the sequel to 'The Ghost and the Goth'. More details to be posted soon!
I'd like to post my condolences to Borders Books and Music. I worked at a Borders for six months. It was my introduction into retail, actually. While I was there for a short time, I will always have fond memories of my time spent there. Borders differs from Barnes and Noble in a few key ways. I'll miss the fantastic manga section that most Borders have. In the same respect, I'll miss the little extra bobbles that Borders sold-- anime figures, t-shirts, purses, Pocky, etc. I spent most of my paychecks on the extra's that my Borders sold than books, I think! Even today, I go in and buy some of their 'extra's from time to time. And let's not forget the Hand Crafted Black Cherry Soda... Yum. Whatever happens, I hope that the thousands of Borders employees who are eventually losing their job aren't shafted and end up where ever they have to end up to be happy.
This Week on the Blog:
Review: Ashes, Ashes
Top Ten Tuesday: Required Teen Reading
Borders Liquidation
And onto the hops:
Book Blogger Hop:
What’s the ONE GENRE that you wish you could get into, but just can’t?
Answer: I'm not very good with contemporary fiction, teen or otherwise. There are some times I wish I could venture from my traditional suit of supernatural genre's, but nothing ever works out in my favor when I do that, so I've pretty much stopped.
Follow Friday:
The Question of the week is:
Name 3 Authors that you would love to sit down and spend an hour or a meal with just talking about either their books or get advice on writing from.
Answer:
Susan Cooper- b/c she rocks. Seriously, The Dark is Rising Sequence is far too underrated here in the States. I would love to just hang out with her for a while and talk about Wales, writing, and The Old Ones!
Laura Whitcomb- b/c she seems like a pretty interesting lady. Her blog is filled with some great posts, including those on her Supernatural Tea Parties. All in all, she seems like a fun person to hang with for an hour. (Author of 'A Certain Slant of Light')
Stephenie Meyer- Yes. Make fun of me all you want, but I would love to meet Stephenie Meyer. And believe it or not, I would probably ask far more about 'The Host' than the Twilight Saga! Stephenie seems far more down to earth than other writers, so I think she'd be a blast to hang with. Plus, it would give me a chance to ask some questions about 'The Host' that have bugged me since reading it!
And that's this week in a nutshell. See you all next week!

It was a lovely 39 here today (that's 102 for you non-metric folks), but felt like 49 (120) with the humidity.
Update: At 1 a.m., the humidity is currently 69 (156). I'm melting!
Hi there, I'm hopping through.
Have a great weekend!

The Borders all closed around here a few months ago. They were my main source of manga too.
Since last week's pie chart about where I get my books was so popular, I thought I'd share what types of books I do read. Please stop by to see which genres I don't typically read.

Hey!
I'm not very good at the contempary stuff either, i find it just gets boring and i love that supernatural something you get with paranormals :D
As for authors, i haven't really heard of the other two but i'll definitely check them out, and though i am no longer obsessed with twilight, Stephenie Meyer still remains as the Vampire writing God.
Please feel free to come on over and say hi, and have an awesome weekend!
Imo :P

Totally with you on Stephanie Meyer. I have read her blog and do think she's quite normal - one of us.
Hi! Stopping by from the Book Blogger Hop and FF. I think Stephanie Meyer would be a great writer to speak with. I too would talk with her more about The Host though. Great answer!
i think Meyer would be an ok author to meet, only for the fact that her books and merchandise got so huge. It would be an interesting convo.

Hey Brooke. It's been really hot up in Minnesota too. It finally cooled down a bit yesterday.
I'd love to meet Stephenie. I'm surprised not more people have mentioned her. She's not cool enough I guess. :-(
My Hop
Hi, new follower here! I feel the same way when it comes to historical fiction. I just can't get into them. Hope you have a great weekend!
If you get a chance, please stop by my hop: Pawing Through Books
Borders did have a fantastic manga selection didn't it? -sigh- I remember the Borders I used to go when I went to Miami it had about 2 rows of shelves with manga on them.

My WoW is an art book.
I very nearly Stephenie Meyer as a part of my Friday Follow also, because of The Host. Mostly I'd just want to beg her to keep writing adult fiction, cause that one was just so good! To see who I did choose, you can hop on over to Fuzzy.Coffee.Books! I hope your house cools down some, I'm out in TX, and it's been ridiculous here too.
Have a great weekend!

Contemps are a hard sell with me as well! Not sure why...they just never really sound that appealing I guess.
Happy Friday! New follower!

stopping by for the book hop! I have The Host in my TBR pile...for quite a while now. Is it worth the read?
Hi. Happy Belated FF from a new follower. Interesting choices. I picked Stephanie Meyer as well, though for very different reasons.

I bet A LOT of people would love to have lunch with Stephanie Meyer! Keep cool!!
My Follow Friday!
Hope you're having a great weekend. I'm a bit sad about Borders as well though I haven't shopped there in awhile. It's too far away whereas B&N is within walking distance but any bookstore closing is a sad thing to me.
Rachel-Endless Reading
I would never make fun of you for loving Stephanie Meyer. She remains one of my favorite authors. Her books are my go to books when I am bored or depressed!
